Hypericum perforatum, is that you?
Known for blooming on the Summer Solstice (which was when I took this video), here are 2 quick and easy was to tell if you have found St. John’s Wort:
Video caption: So you spotted this pretty flower and you think it might be St. John’s Wort. Well here’s how you can find out; grab one of the buds that hasn’t quite opened yet, smush it between your fingers, do you see that red resinous paste that comes out? That is a telltale sign that you indeed have found Hypericum (Latin name). Another way to test is to grab a leaf, hold it up to any light, here I’m actually using the setting sun, and what you’ll see, you can’t see it too well here, but in person you’ll see tiny dots in a very distinct pattern. It almost looks like tiny little windows in the leaf. Also a telltale sign that you indeed have found St. John’s Wort ( Hypericum perforatum).
