That Time we Accidentlly Bought a Ghost on eBay

For my birthday earlier this year, John showered me with an amazing cornucopia of delightfully vintage celestial inspired items. It was a 90’s dream! One of these items is a previously loved blanket with beautiful sun and moon graphics that arrived via eBay, potentially with a ghost included.

Opening the blanket it had a delightful vague wood stove smell. I instantly thought of a wood cabin, perhaps during a Winter snowfall, and an older man with a long white beard, and found comfort in how that impression felt. When sitting with the blanket I pulled off what appeared to be an animal hair, likely a cat or dog. This made sense given it was a previously owned item and only struck me as likely needing a spin in the washing machine. In the moment this did not feel like an energetic impression, just a bit of a sense memory in its own way. After opening all my birthday gifts, they stayed in our living room for the night, the blanket folded neatly on the floor next to the couch.

I fell asleep on the couch that night, laying on my right side, facing the direction of where the blanket sat. At some point in the evening, I woke up to the feeling of pressure on my left ribs. An image of a cat standing on the back of my couch, gently laying its front paws on me, perhaps to get my attention or ask who I was, brought me out of being sleep. I could feel the pressure of toe-beans on my rib cage, a gentle but intentional touch. While I was not scared, this was not a sensation I wanted to continue. Not fully awake, I tried as hard as I could to wiggle my toes in hopes of bringing myself back to being fully awake.

Once awake I immediately pulled my covers over my head (instinct from childhood I suppose) and took some deep breaths. Often when startled awake by energy my heart will race, I’ll be sweaty, and it feels impossible to allow myself to return to sleep. That’s not what happened this time; I was calm, no increase in heartbeat or body temperature, and somehow dozed off again quickly, now with a mind’s eye image of a cat curled up on the folded blanket.

The next day, I didn’t mention any of this to John. I didn’t want to freak him out especially since the experience was not scary. That evening, we were out on our porch, just before sunset and spotted a black cat, seemingly out of nowhere, walking in our yard. It moved at a relaxed pace, peeked over its should at us, crossed the street, and fell out of sight. This was not a neighborhood cat, I knew that for sure. Both John and I remarked that we had not seen this cat before and in that moment I knew it was the cat who nad nudged me in the night. Now I felt a bit uneasy. Was this going to continue?

Another day went by and I asked John to take the blanket outside and give it a good shake. I had set the intention of shaking off any attachments and allowing our cat friend to transition. I wanted them to find their previous human and I sincerely hope that is what happened. At this time, I still hadn’t told John any of this had transpired. He gave the blanket a good shake outside and refolded it when we came back inside the house.

It was over a month later that I filled John in on the experience with the blanket cat. We were sitting out on the porch and I started with: ‘hey, do you remember that black cat we saw…?‘. He remembered. His eyes widened while I told him the story and he was understandably concerned. I shared my intention for the cat visitor and we both felt a sense of closure for the situation.

So where’s the blanket now? Did the cat come back?

The blanket is folded on a chair in the living room and no, the cat has not returned. In my heart I feel like it looking back at us was a gentle goodbye, thanks for the pitstop.

This experience has made me more aware of how items come into our lives and the sad circumstances that may be the impetus for the sale of an item. While I am not open to an experience like this again, I am thankful it was peaceful, gentle, and easy to resolve. Thank you for the lesson cat visitor.
